MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Baylor soccer fell against West Virginia, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The Bears who are now 4-8-2 on the season, 2-4-0 in conference play, scored their lone goal in the first half.
The Bears started the first half strong, getting on the board first thanks to a shot from Ashley Merrill in the 13th minute. After a pass into the box from Elizabeth Kooiman, Merrill found the back of the net after the ball bounced off of a WVU defender and landed at her feet.
The Bears carried the 1-0 lead until the 27th minute when West Virginia capitalized and scored the equalizer.
The Mountaineers took the lead at the 54-minute mark, scoring off of a corner kick.
Continuing the fight, Maddie Algya took the Bears first corner kick of the game in the 65th minute but the bears weren’t able to capitalize off of it.
Hallie Augustyn took the Bears first shot of the second half but the ball went just right of the goal.
WVU took the 3-1 lead in the 82nd minute before Baylor put their only shot on frame of the second half off of the boot of Skye Leach.
The Bears will make a trip to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech Thursday, Oct. 20, before returning home for their final two games of the regular season.
