He said it: “The big 75-yard run was my favorite play. Everybody did their job. Kaden Mitchell threw a great block and the o-line did a great job to set it up. … During track season I focused on breathing with inhaling and exhaling better and on my stride. I worked on ankle mobility and I think that has made me faster. … It’s helped that I’ve had fresh legs this year and that’s because of the job other backs like Logan Gutierrez and Harrison Williams have done. Part of me wants to be the one always running the ball, but you need to have the right mindset and our coaches and players have been great when it’s time for me to tap out for a play.”

Coach said it: “My favorite play from Gabe against Carter was the 75-yard touchdown run, especially how he pulled away. … He used to primarily be a power runner and defenders could run him down, but that’s not happening this year. That’s because of the work he put in during track season. … He is such a great leader this season and he sets a great example. He’s always there before the rest of the team for workouts at 6 a.m.” – Celina coach Bill Elliott.

Did you know? Gayton started playing football in third grade when he was living in Erie, Pa. Gayton and his brother Tikayl lived in multiple foster homes in Olean, NY, before they were taken in by Stephanie Reisdorph in 2018. Reisdorph adopted them on March 5, 2020 before moving to Celina to live with her sister later that year. … Gayton’s favorite course in school is college-prep math, especially geometry. After his football playing days have concluded he would like to have a career either in sports business, coaching or teaching. He wants to also run a company that helps underprivileged kids have better access to athletic facilities and work with trainers for free. … Gayton’s favorite hobby is fishing, especially for bass and catfish. … His favorite meal is wagyu steak with creamed spinach and lemonade. … Gayton’s favorite athletes are former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. He watched Barkley on television many times when he lived in New York and Barkley played for Penn State.
