When it comes to natural wonders just waiting to be explored, the entire state of West Virginia is one big hidden gem. A nature lover’s paradise, the Mountain State is one big outdoor playground. But, while some of our hidden gem natural wonders aren’t so hidden anymore, others have barely been discovered. It’s a little-known nature trail we’re after today, and we’ve found it at Table Rock in the Monongahela National Forest.

If you are the type of person who likes taking your life in your hands, then approach the Table Rock trailhead on Canaan Loop Road through Blackwater Falls State Park. Four wheel drive is required for this steep, narrow, sometimes-washed-out-to-less-than-single-lane route that runs along a 500-foot drop down a mountainside. However, if you prefer a safer, more sane route (that’s still exceptionally scenic), connect with Canaan Loop Road from Route 32 at Canaan Heights south of Davis. You’ll still have 10 miles of gravel road on this route, but just keep coming until you reach the trailhead!
