Francis E. Young

BUXTON – Francis E. Young, 93, passed away on Oct. 3, 2022, at The Gorham House.

He was born on April 3, 1929, in North Reading, Mass., a son of the late Elmer and Mabel (Melanson) Young.

After graduating from North Reading High School, Francis went on to proudly serve the country in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Guam during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.

Francis was a partner in the McIntire and Young Construction Company in Reading, Mass. from the 1950s until 1970. Upon moving to Maine, he worked as a self-employed dairy farmer in Buxton and later worked as a school custodian at MSAD 6, where his teachers and co-workers affectionately knew him as “Frank”.

He was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed both salt water and lake fishing, camping, hunting, and vegetable gardening. While growing up in North Reading, Mass., he enjoyed horseback riding on his horse, Silver.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Claire (Selfridge) Young of 65 years; and a brother, Elmer Young Jr.

Francis is survived by seven children, Beverly Remington and her husband Douglas of Buxton, Daniel Young and his wife Linda of Cornish, Glenn Young and his wife Mary of Virginia, Brenda Vessels and her husband Michael of Florida, David Young and his wife Marilyn Marylin of West Virginia, Kenneth Young and his wife Lee of Hollis, and Kevin Young and his wife Beverly of Buxton; siblings Louis Young and his wife Kathy of Benton, and Gayle Gaston of Buxton; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday Oct. 22 from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Rd. (Route 22) in Buxton. At 11 a.m., a memorial service will be held to celebrate Francis’ life at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Buxton (Tory Hill) Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Gorham House Windsor 1 wing with special gratitude to Laurie for their exceptional care and support, and Robin with Beacon Hospice for her kindness and care to dad and our family.
